Focused Light: Using Art to Reconnect – This is a dream project and one I am deeply passionate about. Our aim is to reach out to individuals suffering from C-PTSD/PTSD, providing them with a creative and safe space dedicated to fostering well-being and artistic expression through analogue photography. While we cater to a diverse clientele, our primary focus is on trauma-based groups. We strive to create a supportive environment for exploration, healing, and community building.

In time, we plan to extend our services to a broader audience, including artists, enthusiasts, and tourists. However, as we are just beginning, we do not have a physical space yet.

Mission Statement

“Empowering Creativity and Healing Through Analogue Photography: We offer educational workshops and a supportive community space for individuals to explore self-expression, mindful practices, and artistic healing, with a special focus on those navigating trauma.”

Primary Target Market

  • Trauma-based Groups: We conduct workshops designed to promote mindfulness and creative expression in a trauma-sensitive environment, developed in collaboration with mental health professionals.
  • Unique Trauma Recovery Focus: Focused Light will be the only analogue photography-based art hub in North Devon specifically designed to support individuals and groups recovering from PTSD and trauma. We harness the transformative power of analogue photography to aid personal healing journeys.

Although we do not have a physical space yet, we offer a unique opportunity to use our website and blog to share your story. This could be about your personal journey, breaking the silence, using art for well-being, your community, or something entirely different. I am open to all ideas. Please get in touch for a discussion.

  1. focusedlight.org.uk is a great idea! Good concept, and it has a good feel about it.

I am a survivor of CSA, and half a century of Complex PTSD followed, and now at the age of 78, and for the last 5 or 6 years, I have felt better, stronger, more cheerful, more creative, than I have ever felt in my rather long life.

I’ve had a quick look at this website, and it looks great. Good articles, well and concisely written, full of meaning, great photos and artwork — already! (And you’ve only just started.)

    Hi James,

Thank you for your comment; it’s much appreciated.

Part of the purpose of this platform is to reach out to the brave survivors of CSA and let them know they are not alone. Through personal stories, artwork, and creative writing, I hope to convey to survivors that they have a supportive community. With the help of this community, my hope is that we can raise awareness and share experiences. Your experience will be an invaluable contribution, James, and I look forward to your participation.
