Empowering Male Survivors: The Healing impact of Storytelling

Focused Light has been awarded a small amount of funding to get the project off the ground. It means we now have an online platform that can be contributed to and owned by this community. Thank you to the North Devon Community Councillors Grant for making this project possible. We are so excited about this project and so grateful to the individual councillors, Katrina Stevenson, Jo Orange, Julie Hunt, Louisa York, David Knight and Christopher Norman. Thank you for believing in this project.

The proposal outlines the creation of a unique webpage and blog for male adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. This platform will provide a safe space for survivors to share their stories, experiences, and the ongoing impact of their trauma. Our hope is that the brief will be interpreted in a variety of ways. Individual stories, and more, will be featured, each accompanied by personalised artwork or portraits specifically created to reflect the survivor’s narrative.

We at Focused Light hope this will be an ongoing project, giving a voice not only to survivors from North Devon but to the wider community. We also will look to integrate for all and not just for male survivors. Together we can become stronger.

Thank you also to MoMENtum: Supporting Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse for your continued support and belief in this project. Together, we can make a difference.

Breaking the Silence – A survivors Story

Healing Through Connection: A Blog for Male Survivors of CSA

Male survivors of CSA often carry the burden of their abuse in silence. Shame, fear, and societal stigma can prevent them from speaking out or seeking support. This website page and blog aims to address this critical need by:

•              Breaking the Silence: Sharing personal stories empowers others to do the same. The blog creates a community of survivors who can learn from each other and understand they are not alone.

•              Validation and Healing: The act of storytelling can be a powerful therapeutic tool. Sharing experiences promotes self-acceptance and allows survivors to reclaim their narrative.

•              Raising Awareness: The blog content will contribute to broader public understanding of the long-term consequences of male CSA. This can encourage empathy and challenge societal taboos.

Project Components:

•              Personalised Artwork: Each participant will be given the opportunity to include a personal created artwork from a taster workshop, generic photo, photographic portrait. This visual will help with the representation of the survivor’s narrative, adding depth and emotional resonance.

Reclaiming Voices: A Safe Space for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse

This project will have a significant impact on male survivors of CSA and the wider community. Expected outcomes include:

•              Increased Sharing and Support: The blog will provide a platform for survivors to connect and feel supported, fostering a sense of community and reducing isolation.

•              Improved Mental Health: Sharing experiences can be a form of emotional release and contribute to the healing process for survivors.

•              Increased Public Awareness: The blog’s content will shed light on the realities of CSA and its long-term effects on males, promoting empathy and understanding.

•              Reduced Stigma: By openly discussing CSA, the project aims to challenge societal stigma and shame often associated with male sexual abuse.
