The Sound of Healing

In a cosy, light-filled studio tucked away from the city’s noise, a group of individuals came together and quite literally, broke the silence. Not defined by their pasts, but by their courage, creativity, and desire to connect. This wasn’t a formal workshop or a performance, but a space for healing, inspiration, and shared experience, for survivors of child sexual abuse, all through the power of music.

The rented studio was more than just a venue. It was radiated warmth and a welcoming atmosphere. Cushions, instruments, and soft lighting created a calming space that felt safe, open, and non-judgemental. For anyone stepping into the room, there was an unspoken message: you are welcome here.

Each person brought something unique, a voice, a rhythm, a quiet strength. Some had never sung in front of others before. Others found peace in playing percussion or simply listening. There was no pressure to perform. Instead, participants were invited to explore a way of expressing what words often can’t. Music became a bridge, to self, to others, and to something deeper within.

The atmosphere was filled with laughter, encouragement, and small moments of bravery. One person found the confidence to sing out loud. Another discovered a natural rhythm on the drums, surprised by a talent they hadn’t known they possessed. While others just simply took part. These powerful moments reflected something deeper, a shift from silence to expression, from past pain to present creativity, and from isolation to a sense of belonging.

CSA Survivors Connect Through Creative Sound

What made this gathering truly powerful was not just the music, but the shared presence. Each person had their own story, but in this space, they weren’t labelled or reduced to it. Instead, they were recognised for their resilience, their openness, and their ability to thrive.

Coming together in a creative, supportive space offered more than just a chance to make music, it allowed people to rebuild trust, rediscover joy, and feel inspired by one another. The session was filled with warmth, not only from the surroundings but from the energy of those present. It was a reminder that healing doesn’t have to happen alone. It can happen in harmony.

These gatherings are vital. They offer more than expression; they offer freedom. Freedom to explore identity, to find strength in vulnerability, and to celebrate the small, beautiful moments of connection. And when people are given the space to be heard, truly heard, transformation begins.

This was a space where people laughed, created, and connected in celebration of the strength it took to keep moving forward. A space where healing and thriving went hand in hand.

This workshop was made possible by working closely with MoMENtum and talented musician and workshop host Jim Watts. We hope to find the funding for more music nights and workshops. If you can help with this, please get in touch.
