Using Art to Reconnect – The National Lottery Community Fund
Focused Light is more than just a project—it’s a warm and welcoming creative space where survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) can come together, connect, and express themselves freely. There’s no pressure, no expectations—just an open invitation to explore creativity in a way that feels right for you. Whether you want to pick up a camera, experiment in a peer led workshops, or simply be in the company of others who understand, this is a place where you are seen, heard, and supported. Although we are based in Devon, we hope our reach goes beyond the borders of county and country.
Thanks to generous funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, The Self Heal Association and The Norman Family Trust along with vital support from MoMENtum Devon, Focused Light is able to provide this funded space, one that particularly acknowledges the importance of creative expression and connection for male survivors.

- Building a sense of community, connecting individuals with shared experiences.

The Journey Begins: Launch & Activities
Our adventure kicks off on February 27th, with a relaxed introductory session where you can get to know the space, the people, and the possibilities. To ease into the creative flow, we’ll also have a fun hands-on activity exploring digital and analogue art—completely at your own pace. Blogs and updates on activities can be found on this page or in the blog section of the website.
As we move forward, you’ll have the chance to explore:
- Polaroid & digital photography – Using your phone or digital images files to transfer images onto Polaroid
- Analogue Photography – Historical methods and processes, such as, cyanotypes, wet-plate etc.
- Large Format Cameras – Playing with different camera systems and making paper negatives
- Photowalks – Using phones or cameras to capture concepts
- Illustration, sketching, poetry & creative writing—tapping into words and visuals as forms of self-expression.
- And much more, If you use a creative outlet and would like to share, please get in touch. One aspect of Focused Light in which we are really proud, is the inclusion of different creative mediums. This is an opportunity for other creatives within the community to share their creativity and healing methods.
You can participate in as many (or as few) activities as you like. There’s no pressure—just an open, welcoming space for creativity and connection.
A Lasting Impact: Beyond the Workshops
Focused Light isn’t just about the moment—it’s about creating something meaningful. We aim to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and build resilience. A key focus is on breaking the silence surrounding CSA, particularly for male survivors, and shining a light on the challenges of living with C-PTSD
As the project grows, we hope to keep the creative momentum alive through:
- Art-based fundraising workshops—where supporters can engage and contribute.
- Donation opportunities—to expand our reach and keep the space accessible for more survivors.
An Inclusive & Supportive Experience
At the heart of it all, Focused Light is about us. There’s no expectation to share your story, no pressure to participate beyond your comfort zone. Whether you come to create, to connect, or simply to be in a safe and welcoming environment, your presence is valued.
As we embark on this journey together, we invite you to explore, express, and heal, on your own terms, in your own way. Welcome to Focused Light.
